Are you interested in lessons with Jay?
There are three ways that you can arrange to study with him:
1) If you live in or near the Los Angeles area, Jay has studios located in Long Beach and Irvine,
CA. You can contact him by email at saxflyr@cox.net to discuss scheduling and rates. Jay also regularly gives group classes in improvisation, doubling and other woodwind
topics in the area, so be sure to ask about them and check back here often to find out when a class you could benefit from
is scheduled. 2) You can
take a web lesson with Jay, if you have a high a high-speed internet connection and a webcam.
3) You can email Jay to arrange a lesson by mp3 and/or
CD. After discussing a topic that you would like help with, you will record yourself on either mp3 or CD, and send the
mp3 file via email or the CD via snail mail to Jay. He will then listen and record an mp3 or CD for you, with examples
and discussion of how to help you, and send it to you.
Jay brings a unique blend of extensive professional performance and recording experience, and
nearly three decades of teaching at all levels from beginner to Master Degree in Performance, to your lessons. Jay has
had students named to positions in the SCSBOA honor jazz bands, the Pacific Symphony Honor Wind Ensemble, and the SCSBOA Regional
Solo Festival, as well as the top performance groups at the Cole Conservatory at CSU, Long Beach His students have been
honored as best soloist at the Monterey Jazz Festival, best combo at the Reno Jazz Festival, and best soloists at events such
as the Fullerton College Jazz Festival, Irvine High School Jazz Festival, and many others. Additionally, his students
have been accepted to undergraduate and graduate programs at well-known music schools such as the University of North Texas,
University of Miami Frost School of Music, University of Northern Colorado, CSU Long Beach, CSU Northridge and many others.
Whatever your goal in music as a saxophonist or woodwind performer, Jay can help you achieve your goals and knows what you
need to make them a reality.
